Want to take control of your health during this Easter break? Come along to our Health Awareness Day

The Nishkam Healthcare Centre is delighted to announce that we will be hosting a Health Awareness Day on Saturday 16th April 2022 from 10am to 2pm for the local community. A wide range of health professionals will be present at the event, including dentists, GPs, emotional wellbeing practitioners and nutritionists.

The event will give attendees a chance to learn about how to best look after and maintain all aspects of general health to prevent health challenges. The Nishkam Healthcare Centre houses a number of different health services to facilitate integrated, culturally sensitive care for the local community, and representatives from each of these services will be present to give guidance on prevention and maintaining good physical health, as well as oral hygiene, and mental health and wellbeing.

Nishkam Pharmacy, which serves 800 members of the public on a weekly basis, will be carrying out blood pressure checks as well as general health checks. The pharmacists are also able to give medication, weight and dietary advice.

Feeling low or anxious? Come along and speak to one of our counsellors or therapists from the Nishkam Mental and Emotional Wellbeing service, and explore how we can offer support. The Nishkam Mental and Emotional Wellbeing service offers  Listening Ear Service as well as free and confidential counselling for adults. Our services are delivered by professional and experienced practitioners, and can be accessed both remotely and in-person.

As part of the Living Kidney Donation campaign, NHS Blood and Transplant will be also be present along with clinical experts from the Nishkam Healthcare Trust to help address misinformation around organ donation to help save lives. Whilst Black and Asian people represent about 10% of the UK population, they are over-represented on the transplant waiting list (26%). Dr Manvir Kaur Hayer, Chair of the Nishkam Healthcare Trust, will be giving a talk on living kidney donation at midday, where all attendees will be encouraged to contribute their thoughts.

This event is open to all and is absolutely free to attend! Bring your friends and family to understand more about your health and how to avoid health challenges. Simply turn up on the day and spend some time with us, our volunteers, and our services.
